At the third annual Sleep and Health Benefit Dinner September 20, 2004, Dr. Joseph B. Martin, Dean of Harvard Medical School once again gave the welcome address, and Robert Stickgold, PhD "The Vital Role of Sleep and Dreams in Learning and Memory". The 2004 Annual Prize in Sleep Medicine was awarded in celebration of the life and work of William C. Dement, MD, PhD.

This evening was also an occassion to celebrate the first three Professorships in Sleep Medicine, for which there had been an Installation Ceremony and recognition event that same afternoon. These three chairs - the Baldino, the McGinnis and the Farrell Professorships in Sleep Medicine, were the first of their kind, and established sleep firmly in the mainstream of academic medicine.
