Laboratory of Systems Neuroscience
Neurology Department, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center
Director: Clifford B. Saper, MD, PhD
The Saper lab studies brain circuitry that controls a variety of basic functions, including wake-sleep, circadian rhythms, thermoregulation, stress responses, and related activities. We use a variety of genetically targeted methods to record from or manipulate neurons in the brain during unrestrained behavior of animals and neuroanatomical methods to analyze the underlying circuitry. We also are interested in the fate of the homologous circuitry in the human brain during aging and in neurodegenerative disorders.
