Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) and general relaxation techniques may promote better sleep and improve stress and body tension. They are not effective for everyone to treat insomnia, but can be tried because of the lack of any side effects.
Meditation and Yoga are activities that may be tried in addition to standard treatment. Remember that not all individuals benefit.
I should drink alcohol to treat my insomnia, or help me fall asleep.
Myth! Although studies suggest that two to three standard drinks before bedtime can help individuals fall asleep faster, these effects disappear in three or more days after continued use. Alcohol also disrupts the second half of sleep and thus results in insomnia symptoms.
