Clues into Regulation of Deep Sleep

Man Sleeping

A newly published study published on April 26 in Nature and Communications led by Radhika Basheer, HMS Division of Sleep Medicine researcher at VA Boston Healthcare System offers critical clues into this longstanding mystery. The work, conducted in mice identifies an area in the brain that regulates the oscillations of delta waves which are a hallmark of restorative sleep. Their work opens up the possibility of developing new medications to enhance the restorative function of sleep.
